The 18th ASIANIA Parachuting Championship and CHINA International Open 2017  events are over - finally and successfully completed in the last 4 1/2 days of the scheduled competition period 20th - 27th November.

With the unexpected inclement weather everyone was necessarily on standby each day for any little chance to jump.  Everyone was always hopeful that the skies would finally open up sufficently to allow accuracy jumping to commence and that altitude would become available for the freefall events.

The days dragged on wating for the weather to improve. It finally happened..... With three PC6 aircraft available, good jump pilots and Meet Director  the competition  commenced with 3 1/2 rounds of Accuracy and a round of each freefall event being completed on day 1.  Days 2 and 3 saw more rounds of 4FS, 2CF, Freefall Style and accuracy rounds completed. Day 4 was similar except with the semi final round for FS being  a random sequence the Qatar A team successfully created a new ASIANIA 4-way FS record with a score for one jump of 40 points in time. Previous record was held by UAE (30 points in 2014).  On the same round the China A team set a new National China 4FS record  with 29 points in time.

The final weather date was the 27th November and the competition officially ended at 12 noon. The morning was spent completing the final rounds of Individual Male and Female Accuracy. Finally after two tiebreaks each in the male and female events were creating an exiting finish, the official time was reached, then it was necessary to count the zeros to finalise the placings. Altogether 8 rounds of team accuracy, plus semi and final rounds for Individual accuracy for male and female were carried out. Plus 5 rounds of Individual Male and Female Style, 8 rounds of 4FS and 6 rounds of 2CF.  Overall, not counting the unexpected bad weather in the early days of the championships, the weather conditions were good.

The official 2 day Judge conference conducted before the competition start date proceded well with FAI rules discussion and judging being assessed.  A majority of  FAI Judges was always well maintained in the official judging panels,  with selected National Judges working in suitable varying positions. Every judge gave their best effort and all  judging was carried out with diligence and accuracy.  Event Judge for Accuracy was Chang Il (David) Choi, EJ for Style Guo Shuolin, EJ for 4FS Yaser Mohsen and 2CF Ray Williams.  Chief Judge was Faye Cox and Meet Director Wang Yongli.  Two InTime sytems from South Africa (Dirk Venter) and Australia (Bruce Towers) were used - Dirk  was the chief operator and dubber for the the 4FS and 2CF.  The Chinese Weckbecker sytem was used for judging  Accuracy and Freefall Style.  The Results team consisting of Chinese judges and expereinced personnel always provided the results quickly and accurately throughout the event.

Facilities at the Drop Zone were very good, with comfortable team tents, packing and creeper areas. The Chinese manifest team did a great job with information clearly announced over the PA sytem. The Judging areas and facilities were close to everything and very well appointed to ensure everyone could work in quiet condiitons with all necesary equipment available.  The 4-5 star accomodation at the Ji'An Hotel was most enjoyable and only a 20 minute drive to the DZ each day by bus. Breakfast and dinner were at the hotel.  Lunch at the DZ. The vast array of food ensured that meals were always very edible, healthy, tasty and agreeable to all participants.

Big thanks from ASIANIA to the ASFC (Aero sports Federation of China) organising committee for the attention to detail and a warm, welcoming attitude to all participants.

China will host the 2022 Asian Games and skydiving is on the list !!!  Events are yet to be confirmed.
